OLD NEIGHBORHOODS

On this captivating day, we will explore Larnaca, once known as Kition, one of the oldest and third-largest cities on the island. As we travel, we will pass through the quaint village of Kiti, home to one of Cyprus' most revered shrines—the Angelokhtisti Temple. Dedicated to the Most Holy Theotokos, the temple’s name, which means “built by angels,” is derived from the legend that angels constructed the temple in just a few days. Within, you'll be awe-struck by a unique mosaic adorning the vault of the altar apse, dating from the second half of the 6th century. This remarkable mosaic is one of only seven early Christian mosaics in the world to have survived in its original form.

Our journey continues through the stunning Salt Lake, a remarkable natural habitat where, during the winter months, pink flamingos flock, creating a picturesque scene. The lake is not only a beautiful sight but also an essential part of Cyprus' ecosystem.

Upon reaching Larnaca, we will visit one of the first Christian churches on the island—the Church of St. Lazarus. Here, you will learn about the fascinating history of this ancient temple and have the opportunity to venerate the relics of St. Lazarus. The church's iconostasis, adorned with 120 icons, will surely impress you, alongside its stunning Byzantine architecture, reflecting the artistic splendor of the early Christian period.

If you wish, you can savor a culinary delight by enjoying fish meze, one of the finest masterpieces of local cuisine, served in one of the vibrant, traditional taverns.

Afterward, you will have free time to explore Larnaca’s Old Town, wandering through its charming streets, where you can truly immerse yourself in the island’s rich culture. Don’t miss the chance to stroll along Finikoudes, the famous palm-lined promenade, where locals gather to relax. Along the way, stop for a cup of aromatic Cypriot coffee and soak in the atmosphere of this welcoming town.

Note: Lunch and entrance tickets are not included in the tour price.
